Description
Woodblock triptych print, oban tate-e. A scene the very successful kabuki play 'Sakura soshi', with the actors Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Asakura Togo (right), in the presence of his wife O-Mine, played by Onoe Kikujiro and his children, who are tied by ropes. The torture is under the supervision of Orikoshi Daizen Masatomo, played by Bando Hikosaburo (centre), who holds a sword to a child’s throat. The scene is observed by Nagayoshi, also perfomed by Hikosaburo (left), and Otani Tomoemon as the courtier Goheita.
