Skirt; part of woman's market day/festival costume As.1998.1.234 to 236. Made in three bands: i) deep unbleached calico with long ties of folded-over cloth; ii) tightly pleated bright blue manufactured cotton; iii) wax resist bought cotton, sewn by hand onto ii), pleated at the same time but allowed to fall open loosely at bottom. Appliqued cloth strips in horizontal bands over wax resist. Wider band of red, white and maroon strips and two narrower marron strips. The wax resist pattern is complex with areas of spot and line pattern interspersed with dark circles in a light ground next to triangle and cross patterns.
