Pottery: black-figured Panathenaic amphoriskos. Perhaps a toy, souvenir or votive-offering. Obverse archaistic; coarse style. Designs black on buff panels divided by narrow bands, with incised lines. (a) Athene standing to left between two Doric columns, with right foot and right arm drawn back, brandishing spear in right hand; she has a high-crested helmet with peak, long chiton with diploidion, and shield on left arm. The columns stand on plinths; on the one on the left is a cock to right. (b) An athlete to right exercising, nude and beardless, holding diskos in right hand and in left an uncertain object with one end curved; he looks back at a paidotribes (trainer), who is also nude and beardless, and stands to right with wand in left hand and right extended.
