Description
A companion pl. to BMSat 10061. Napoleon, not caricatured, a magnificent figure in consular dress with large plumed cocked hat, strides across the globe from a point between Poland, Hungary, and Turkey to the sea off the coast of England, where his 1. foot is planted among tiny British ships. The map on which he stands is inverted, Poland on the 1. or west, England on the r., and there is no attempt to indicate the coast-line. The countries he bestrides (1. to r.) are: 'Prussia', 'Germany', 'Italy', 'Denmark', 'Holland', 'Hanover' [see BMSat 10023, &c.], 'Swisserland', 'France', 'Spain', and 'Portugal'. The arc of the globe forms a background. Below the design: 'He will put his foot in it.' 25 July 1803 Hand-coloured etching
