Description
Processional cross made from brass in four pieces, cross, two lower arms and cast shaft. The hollow tapering shaft has two bands of raised decoration and a deep vertical slot at the top into which the cross is supported and secured with three copper nails. Each of the lower arms, joined to the shaft with two copper nails, curve upwards to support the body of the cross. Both are engraved with angels with crossed wings and surmounted with a cross. The diamond shaped body of the cross is decorated on the outer edge with twelve crosses and is engraved with holy images; Front clockwise from top; Crucifixion of Christ, Mary, John, Mary and her beloved Son with Saint Gabriel and Saint Michael, the Resurrection, Abun Gabre Manfus Qeddus, Saint George slaying a dragon saving Birutawit and four angels. Verso clockwise from top; The Covenant of Mercy, Fitawrari Fayabichu [?], Saint Stephen, Abun Takla Haymanot and seven angels.
