Description
Comb, of one piece of soft wood such as alder, with a rectangular series of seventeen teeth, all present, surmounted by a thick rectangular bar, and seated figure of man. The man is depicted without torso, features or clothing, wearing a top hat, with arc-oval eyes, nose, mouth and ears, smoking an enormous pipe which is grasped in both hands and placed on the feet. The ankles, toes and fingers are indicated in part, one finger curling into the pipe bowl. The comb was varnished after collection, has a small chunk of wood missing from the hat, and several serious, but old, cracks in the figure. On the side is a pre-aquisition label indicating that this was '810' in the probate list for W O Oldman.
