Description
A council of war, study for a satirical print in the series 'Political Sketches', published by Thomas McLean, 1821-1851; O'Connell sitting at a table on which there is a document inscribed 'plan of attack', explaining it to Lords Morpeth, Fortescue and Normanby. 1839 Black chalk touched with pen and black ink Verso: Dentatus; Lord Normanby (Dentatus) defending himself against the onslaught of Lord Roden, Lord Charleville, and Lord Westmeath, while Brougham hurls a stone at him from above, in a parody of Haydon's picture, and with reference to Lord Roden's motion in the House of Lords for a Committee of Inquiry into Lord Normanby's Irish Administration. 1839 Black chalk touched with pen and black ink
