Description
A woman's long-sleeved shirt; mid-calf length. It is made from natural cream tabby woven cotton cloth; handspun and hand woven. The full weaving width [29.5 cms approx] has been used centre front and back, together with four additional panels, creating an A-line shape; hand stitched. Four horizontal strips made from gold-coloured metal-wrapped thread stitched to two vertical rectangles of red cotton tabby woven cloth applied either side of the long centre front neckline. A small upright collar is lightly padded and decorated with a red and black lattice patterned embroidery and red wool (with some white cotton) fringing. The long straight sleeves are attached at right angles, and are undecorated save for a single stylized plant motif at the hem of the sleeve (back): motif outlined in black wool and worked in red wool and gold-coloured metal wrapped thread. The hem of the shirt is embroidered with eight large and six smaller identical motifs, comprising a square with straight lines emerging in all four directions. Worked in red, green, brown, purple, black wool yarns and gold-coloured metal-wrapped thread.
