Description
Large albarello, earthenware covered inside and outside with a presumed tin-glaze. Painted decoration, a continuous landscape with 2 men, one in classical armour the other in clothes of the 16thC holding a large tablet with the inscription "Mostarda. f". Above the tablet two dolphins. Above this, bands of white and a continuous foliate tendril. Beneath the foot some roughly spiral scrolls.
The BM albarello referred to in the catalogue Pandolfini Casa D'Aste, Arte A Venezia Tra XVI E XUX Secolo, 28.09.2022, lot 32 "A bulbous jar, Venice, Mastro Domenico & Coworkers, Third Quarter 16th Century. The entry refers to a close relationship between the depiction of the landscape on the BM albarello and lot 32.
