Description
Invitations to anniversary celebrations from the London Hospital. Text within [] indicates hand-written notes:
J,8.244: Engraved invitation set within cartouche decorated with oak leaves, at top a vignette of a beggar woman seated, being helped by a draped woman wearing castellated crown, holding shield; the London Hospital in the background, inscribed "Relief in Distress", and "London Hospital MDCCLVIII". The invitation engraved "Sir / You are desired to meet His Royal Highness - the Duke of York President, and the Governors of the London Hospital, on Thursday the 10th day of April 1766. At St Laurence's Church, at Eleven o'Clock to attend Divine Service & hear a Sermon by the Rt Revd. John Lord Bishop of Landaff, and afterwards to dine at Merchant Taylors Hall in Threadneedle Street at 2 o'Clock". With list of stewards. "Wm Trotter Secy", and stamped with seal. Printed in red ink.
