SILVER AND TORTOISE-SHELL PAIR CASED VERGE WATCH. . MOVEMENT FRAME: Circular gilt-brass plates with four pierced Egyptian pillars. Riveted potence and riveted counter-potence. Engraved decoration around the verge aperture. . MAINSPRING & SET-UP: Gilt-brass barrel with snap-in cap and riveted steel hook. Tangent-screw set-up on the potence-plate, the silver index disc engraved 1-8, the index now missing. . FUSEE & STOP-WORK: Gilt-brass fusee for chain (now missing) and English stop-work. . TRAIN: Three wheel going-train, the second and contrate wheels with three crossings. . ESCAPEMENT & BALANCE: Verge escapement, the crown wheel replaced. Steel 2-arm balance. Screwed-on balance cock, pierced and engraved with foliate scrolls. . DIAL & HAND: Silver champlevé dial pinned directly to the pillar-plate. Roman hours I-XII on raised rectangular plaques arranged dancetté and lozenge shaped half-hour marks surrounding a quarter circle. Single blued-steel hand. . CASES: Plain silver inner case with hinged bezel, split and glazed. The rotating cover for the rear winding hole now missing. Silver pendant with loose ring. Outer tortoise-shell covered brass case with silver rims and hinge. Silver piqué decoration around the band. The back has a central roundel with a landscape showing buildings and a tree, the design engraved and inlaid with silver wire. The front bezel rim is now missing.
