Description
Damaged iron sword; in very poor condition, and lacking the tang and the top of the blade. The blade terminated 28 mm below the mouth of the scabbard and extended for 709 mm, and is now in two parts. It is 39 mm wide at the top and is lenticular in section, with the remains of a central shallow groove down the upper part on both sides. Between 26 and 40 mm from the present top of the blade, on one side only, is the faint impression of a stamp (clarified slightly by radiographs). Two circles, or possibly two adjoining peltas, can be distinguished, apparently in an oval field.
