Cumbrian red sandstone altar dedicated by Gaius Cornelius Peregrinus, tribunus of the auxiliary garrison at Maryport. Upper part of capital has been chiselled off. On back are carved axe and knife in panel flanked by two fluted columns. Above panel is inscription VOLANTI VIVAS surmounted by three concentric circles, and flanked by the ends of three bolsters on either side. On the sides are panels flanked by columns, the back ones fluted and the front ones with cable moulding. The left had panel contains a patera and jug, the right hand panel has a central medallion with smaller medallion below and pine cone beneath. The front of the capital has in the centre a human bust flanked by lions heads.
