A complete set of eleven illustrations engraved after Eisen; consisting of a frontispiece and an illustration to each of the ten cantos of Voltaire's epic poem 'L'Henriade'; with frontispiece showing two Spirits flanking the bust of Voltaire set on a pedestal; Canto I, the meeting between Henri III and Henri of Navarre, both on horseback; Canto II, the meeting between Henri of Navarre and Elizabeth I; Canto III, the assassination of the duke of Guise; Canto IV, the Catholic League storming into the Parliament and addressing Achille de Harlay; Canto V, the assassination of Henri III by Jacques Clément; Canto VI, an angel coming to the aid of Henri IV during the latter's siege of Paris; Canto VII, St Louis appearing in dream to Henri IV; Canto VIII, the clemency of Henri IV towards the members of the League; Canto IX, Henri IV in the arms his mistress Gabrielle d'Estrées, surrounded by putti; Canto X, Henri IV entering Paris on horseback, accompanied by his troops, Fame, and Christ carrying his cross; lettered state of illustrations from Voltaire's 'Oeuvres' (Paris: 1751), 11 vols. c.1750/51 Etching and engraving
