Description
Painting on paper depicting Somaskandamurti. After conservation. Siva sits in lalitasana along with Uma and baby Skanda on a long throne. The goddess' left leg is flexed with her foot resting on the asana and her right leg hangs down. Baby Skanda naked, with the hair tied in a topknot, stands between his parents, his legs slightly flexed, as if on the verge of dancing. Siva carries the usual damaru and mriga in his upper pair of hands, while the lower one is in abhaya and varada mudra. He is dressed in a dhoti, angavastra and wears the usual ornaments. The crescent moon is lightly drawn above the tripundra marks on his forehead. Uma, of a deep green complexion, wears sari, blouse and carries a red flower in her right hand.
