Benedict is curator of the Ancient Near East collection at the British Museum. Alongside his curatorial duties, Benedict is curator of the international touring exhibition, An Age of Luxury: Assyria to Alexander the Great due to open in May 2018. Prior to joining the Middle East department, Benedict worked as a Project Curator on the Zayed National Museum project at the British Museum.


Benedict holds a BA in Archaeology from Durham University and an MA in Middle East Archaeology from University College London (UCL) Institute of Archaeology. He has worked as a field archaeologist across the Middle East, excavating multi period sites in Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Turkmenistan and India. His research interests include Arabian Gulf archaeology, Near East archaeology and Islamic period archaeology of the Middle East.
