Jila Peacock
Born Tehran, Iran, 1948
Having moved to Britain in 1959, Peacock studied medicine at the University of London,, 1968–73, and worked as a doctor before gaining her BA in fine art from St Martin’s School of Art, London, in 1984. In 1990 she moved to Scotland, where she is a member of the Glasgow Print Studio and was a visiting lecturer at the Glasgow School of Art from 1995 to 2002. In 2003–4 she was a visiting scholar at New Hall, Cambridge, researching Islamic figural calligraphy with an award from the Arts and Humanities Research Board. Her paintings and monoprints have been exhibited in the United Kingdom, and her interest in music and the poetic image has resulted in a multi-media collaboration, The Seafarer, with composer Sally Beamish.
