Mohammed Muhriddin

Born Basra, Iraq, 1938

Portrait of Mohammed MuhriddinMuhriddin studied painting and graphic arts at the Institute of Fine Arts, Baghdad, 1956–9, and at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, Poland, 1966. Back in Iraq, he conveyed his experience of Polish art to his contemporaries and contributed to the development of graphic arts which had come into focus with the presence at the Institute of Fine Arts of the Polish teacher, artist and printmaker Roman Artymowski in the late 1950s and mid-1960s. In 1965 Muhriddin participated in the first exhibition in Baghdad dedicated solely to graphic arts. He has exhibited in the Middle East, the USA and Europe, including Bagdad–Paris, Artistes d'Irak, Musée du Montparnasse, Paris; the First Biennial, Ankara; and the Second International Art Festival, Baghdad. He lives and works in Amman.
