Farhad Moshiri
Born Shiraz, Iran, 1963
Moshiri travelled from Iran to the USA in the early 1980s to study at the California Institute of Arts, from which he graduated in 1984. He first became known for his series of large oils on canvas showing monumental jars and bowls with richly textured surfaces and flowing calligraphy. His work also includes photographs, sculptures and installations. Among his more conceptual pieces are his vitrine of gilded objects, 2003, the Rogue gun installation, 2004, and The ultimate toy – Legold, 2004. Moshiri has had seventeen solo exhibitions, including one at Leighton House, London, 2003, and in galleries in Rome, Geneva, Dubai and New York. In addition to his participation in many group exhibitions, he also curated Welcome, an exhibition of works by contemporary Iranian artists, in New York, 2005. Moshiri lives and works in Tehran.
