Hussein Madi
Born Cheba`a, Lebanon, 1938
Madi is a painter, sculptor and printmaker. He studied at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, Beirut, 1958–62, and in 1963 travelled to Rome to pursue his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti and the Accademia San Giacomo. He remained in Italy until 1987, making long and frequent visits to Lebanon. He taught at the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Beirut, Lebanon, 1973–86, and from 1982 to 1992. In 1979 he had a retrospective at the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie, Beirut. He participated in biennials in São Paolo, Brazil, 1996, and Venice, 2003. He was president of the Lebanese association of painters and sculptors. He lives and works in Beirut.
