Susan Hefuna
Born Germany, 1962Much of Hefuna's work is inspired by the beauty, structure and atmosphere of mashrabiyas (latticed woodwork) in Cairo and explores the coding and decoding of these works as viewed from different cultural contexts. Of Egyptian and German parentage, she lives and works 'in Transit'. Hefuna has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and the USA, including the Sharjah Biennial, 2007, and the Louvre, Paris, 2004. She won the International Award at the Cairo Biennial, 1998. She has three new solo exhibitions: at Townhouse Gallery, Cairo, 2007;ACAF Alexandria, 2008; and the Third Line Gallery, Dubai, 2008. Her work is in public collections including the Sharjah Art Museum;Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris; DIFC, Dubai; and Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart.
