Hakim Ghazali
Born Casablanca, MoroccoGhazali was sent to Quranic school at the age of three where he developed an early appreciation for line, form and colour. He studied plastic arts in Casablanca and was awarded a scholarship by the Moroccan Minister of Culture to study in Amiens and Paris, France. His training there in graphic design and printing further inspired his interest in the language and morphology of letters, and he incorporated typeset texts and newsprint into his works. Ghazali has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. He is a member of the Morocco Art Association, International Association of Art (IAAP), UNESCO; 'House of Artists' in Paris, UNESCO; and the Icava Institute of Contemporary African Visual Arts, New York. He is design consultant to the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information. His awards include first prize in painting, 'Artistes du Monde', Paris, 2000, and first prize, Arabic Type Design Competition – Linotype, Hamburg, Germany, 2006. He lives and works in Paris and Morocco.
