Ghassan Ghaib

Born in Baghdad, Iraq, 1964

Portrait of Ghassan GhaibGha’ib graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts, Baghdad, 1986, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad, 1997. He has won several awards and participated in numerous exhibitions of contemporary Iraqi art, including the touring exhibition Strokes of Genius: Contemporary Iraqi Art,which began in London, 2000. His work includes oils on canvas and mixed media.Together with some of his contemporaries – Dia al-Azzawi, Rafa al-Nasiri and Kareem Risan, among others – Gha’ib has been exploring the book art form. His work was shown at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, Germany, 2004; the touring exhibition Dafatir: Contemporary Iraqi Book Art, which opened in Texas, USA, 2005; Bagdad–Paris, Artistes d’Irak, Musée du Montparnasse, Paris, 2005–6; the Mondial de l'Estampe et de la Gravure Originale in France, 2006; and the third international collage exhibition in Vilnius, Lithuania. He lives and works in Baghdad.
