Golnaz Fathi

Born Tehran, Iran, 1972

Fathi received a diploma in calligraphy from the Iranian Society of Calligraphy,Tehran, 1996, after her BA in graphic design from the Azad Art University,Tehran, 1995, when she was awarded a prize as best female calligrapher by the Iranian Society of Calligraphy. She has received grants to study in France at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, 2003 and 2004, and in Italy at Fabrica, Treviso, 2007. Her work is inspired by her Iranian cultural heritage, architecture and the traditional art of calligraphy. It has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in the Middle East, Europe and the USA, including the first Islamic World Calligraphy Festival at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 1997. She lives and works in Iran.
