Yusef Ahmad
Born Doha, QatarAhmad is an artist, calligrapher, writer and teacher. He studied classical calligraphy as a child and was also fascinated by the art of printing. He worked as a calligrapher and caricaturist for Al Oruba Press and as an art inspector for the Minis try of Education, 1974–5. He received an MA in Art and Education from Helwan University, Cairo, 1976, and an MA in painting from Mills College, California, 1983. He has participated in group exhibitions around the Arab world and in Paris, London,Tehran and Tunisia. His work was included in Languages of the Desert: Contemporary Art from the Gulf States, Bonn and Paris, 2005–6. His solo exhibitions include the World Bank Gallery,Washington, DC, 1997; the Fine Arts Society, Doha, 2000, and the Kuwait National Gallery. He lives and works in Doha.
