Youssef Abdelké

Born Qamechli, Syria, 1951

Portrait of Youssef AbdelkeAbdelké graduated from the College of Fine Arts, University of Damascus, 1976, and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Paris, 1986, before obtaining a doctorate in fine arts from the University of Paris VIII, 1989. His work includes posters, book designs, illustrations for periodicals and children’s books as well as caricatures. He has researched the history of caricature in Syria, and Arab caricaturists and their techniques. His work has been exhibited in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, including the International Biennial Imagining the Book, Alexandria Library, Egypt, 2005, and solo exhibitions in Kuwait and at the Khan Assad Bacha in Damascus, Syria. Abdelké lives and works in Paris.
