Local businessman Raymond Riesco bequeathed to the Borough of Croydon a stunning collection of Chinese ceramics dating from 2500 BC to the 19th century. High points include amazing Tang dynasty tomb models and beautiful Ming dynasty bowls.
The British Museum will be working in partnership with Croydon Museum to select important ceramic objects from the British Museum’s collection which will engage with aspects of this important collection, lending new objects every six months.
Zun-shaped flower vase decorated in enamels on the biscuit. It is decorated with designs of dragons, clouds and waves in aubergine and green enamel on a yellow ground. The neck bears a six-character Wanli reign mark.
