Vindolanda Tablets

Roman Vindolanda and Roman Army Museum, Hadrian's Wall
12 March –
28 August 2011

To mark the opening of the newly re-developed Roman Vindolanda and Roman Army Museum on Hadrian’s Wall, the British Museum will lend a selection of the Museum’s top ten British Treasures, The Vindolanda Tablets, which are the oldest surviving hand written documents in Britain. The Vindolanda Trust will be receiving nine of the writing tablets, which feature fragments of military reports, administrative accounts and letters to and from residents of the fort.

This is part of an ongoing partnership between Vindolanda Trust and the British Museum to enable an important range of these fascinating but incredibly fragile documents to be displayed where they were found.
