The Sōgetsu school was founded by Techigahara Sofu in 1926. Sōgetsu arrangements range enormously in scale and can fill entire buildings. Today Teshigahara’s granddaughter leads the school and is keen to encourage children to engage with ikebana.

The demonstrator was Ruth Sulke: "I began studying ikebana in 1960 in Hong Kong where I had been living since 1949 and where I still live half of the year. Besides teaching ikebana, I have participated in exhibitions all over the world and have demonstrated in Hong Kong, England and America."
