What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

Some of the feedback we have received about Vikings Live:

"Absolutely brilliant, engrossing, informative … Also saw Pompeii Live last year - great. Much more of this please for those of us who find it difficult to travel to London."

"Thank you for the splendid Vikings Live production screened on Thursday. It was a thoroughly entertaining and absorbing hour and a half, superbly presented by Michael and Bettany. We hope this will be only the first of many exhibition broadcasts from the British Museum. Thank you."

"Informative, engaging and educational!"

"Really interesting and great fun."
