When I left school at 18 I was going to music college to be an opera singer and my English teacher wrote in my yearbook
'Her voice was ever soft,
Gentle and low, an excellent thing in woman'
At the time it gave me great confidence - this was long before the development of my own love of Shakespeare which I ended up studying a bit later and this Lear quote has stayed with me.
