Access

Accessibility

There is level access to and throughout the exhibition. Ticket concessions are available for disabled people and a ticket for a disabled person’s assistant is free. Bench seating is available in the exhibition and portable seating is available in the Great Court. If you need any further information about how to make your visit accessible, please contact access@britishmuseum.org

 

Exhibition events

All exhibition events have level access. Induction loops are fitted into both lecture theatres for hearing aid users with a T setting.

We provide specific events to make the exhibition accessible to blind, partially sighted, Deaf and hard of hearing people. You can find details below.


Audio described tour and handling session

Tours for blind and partially sighted visitors, led by the exhibition curator and a trained audio describer will explore highlight artworks from the exhibition. Tours are accompanied by a handling session.

£13 exhibition entry. Members free. A disabled person’s assistant is free.

Who were the Scythians?: Curator St John Simpson has created a handy beginners guide to these nomadic warriors.


Large print description with images and tactile images

A book containing a self-led descriptive tour for partially sighted visitors is available in the exhibition. It contains descriptions of ten objects selected from the exhibition, each with a simplified black and white diagram. Key features in the diagrams are labelled. A tactile version of the images with labels in Braille is also available.

Exhibition Curator St John Simpson gives an introduction to the exhibition. This event has live subtitles for Deaf and hard of hearing visitors.
