Organised by the British Museum and UCL Institute of Archaeology

Thursday 10 – Sunday 13 September 2009
BP Lecture Theatre
£150, students £100
Dinner on Saturday 12 September at British Academy £60

The focus of the conference is the scientific study and archaeological interpretation of ancient ceramics. Bringing together established scholars and young researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including ceramic petrologists, chemists, material scientists, geologists, archaeologists and art historians, EMAC stimulates an international and cross-faculty exchange of ideas and approaches.

The conference coincides with Wedgwood’s 250th anniversary. On Friday 11 September there will be a special themed session to promote and discuss the study of ceramics produced in the wake of the Industrial Revolution.

On Sunday 13 September, there will be a one-day excursion to visit the newly refurbished Wedgwood Visitor Centre and Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. Tickets for the excursion cost £40 and places are limited to 50. To book the excursion please email emac09@ucl.ac.uk.

The conference will include the following sessions:

  • Technology and provenance
  • Methodological developments
  • Dating
  • Technical ceramics

  • Residue analysis

All delegates will receive a copy of the volume that will be published with selected conference papers.
