colloquium programme
This year's Egyptological Colloquium will be devoted to the Book
of the Dead. Recent research by scholars worldwide is transforming
our understanding of the function and development of this important
corpus of funerary texts, and the papers presented at this
colloquium will offer many new insights.
Besides studies of specific spells and individual papyri, the
Book of the Dead will be considered in a broader context, with
discussions of the different text traditions, the process of
selecting spells for inclusion in a papyrus, the contextualising of
the Book of the Dead within the burial and its use outside the tomb
as exemplified by its occurrence in temples. Other papers will
outline the progress of current study of the Book of the Dead and
the ongoing preparation of a synoptic edition of its spells.
Speakers: Burkhard Backes, John Gee, Holger
Kockelmann, Bridget Leach, Giuseppina Lenzo, Rita Lucarelli,
Barbara Lüscher, Malcolm Mosher, Matthias Müller, Irmtraut Munro,
Richard Parkinson, Stephen Quirke, Chloe Ragazzoli, Maarten Raven,
Isabelle Régen, Tarek Tawfik, Francesco Tiradritti, Annik
Wüthrich.
