What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

Members’ evenings are the perfect way to get the most from your Membership with a packed programme of activities aimed at bringing you closer to the collection.

Wander the permanent collection and explore exhibitions away from the daytime crowds, hear from Museum curators as they take you on intimate tours, try your hand at a range of craft activities delivered by professional artists, listen to performances and drop in on demonstrations at these exclusive evening events.

You can also enjoy a meal in the restaurant, take advantage of special offers in the shops and relax with a glass of wine under the celebrated roof of the Great Court.
