What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

A screening of the documentary Pompeii: The Last Day introduced by Maria Wyke, Professor of Latin, UCL.

Drawing on fresh research in volcanology and using CGI, this award-winning BBC documentary vividly displays the main stages of the terrifying eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, and the consequences for people whose lives and deaths have been reconstructed from the bodies found at the site.
