What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

Would you like to bring your students and their families to the Exploring identity activity weekend in March 2014 but don't know where to start?

The Supplementary Schools Programme Team are running a free training session to help you bring your supplementray school to the Museum's next activity weekend.

Please note that places are limited to one per supplementary school.

Training will include a tour of galleries covering ancient Greece, Britain and Europe, guidance on how to run group activities with your students, and the opportunity to discuss and plan your own visit.
