Through lectures and gallery visits, this day considers topics including Robert Adam and his circle of enlightened Grand Tourists, aspects of public science in the Enlightenment, Wedgwood, the enlightened industrialist, the Cult of Styles and the exotic.

This study day focuses particularly on the Enlightenment Gallery but also offers an understanding of why the British Museum’s collection was established in the 18th and 19th centuries.

There is also a special viewing of Delacroix’s original lithographs of Faust.

Open to Open University students and the public.
