Museum in the World
The British Museum’s collection is worldwide in origin and is
intended for use by the citizens of the world.
The Museum collaborates on exhibitions, skills-sharing, and
research with many international partners. These partnerships bring
new insights into the collection, and help create new
understandings of our changing world.
International programmes
Key international partnerships help to keep lines of
communication open between nations and foster an international
community of inquiry and research.
Memoranda of Understanding
A series of reciprocal relationships and collaborative projects
with cultural organisations and governments worldwide.
International curatorial training programme
A training programme for curators from outside
Europe, covering various aspects of museum work and creating a
network of colleagues around the world.
Exhibitions overseas
An extensive loans and touring exhibitions programme allows
global access to the Museum collection. Over 1,925 objects
travelled to 104 venues outside the UK in 2007/8.
