Portable Antiquities Scheme

Portable Antiquities Scheme

A voluntary scheme run from the British Museum to record archaeological objects found in England and Wales.

It encourages members of the public, metal detector users, archaeologists and museums to work together to preserve and learn from the past. 77,627 objects were recorded in 2007.
