The Kohdoh school was founded nearly 500 years ago. It follows the rules of an ancient book called Heishi which describes not only the technical rules of ikebana but also the philosophical idea behind it. It teaches how to achieve a peaceful and rewarding life through the art of arranging flowers.

This arrangement contains coconut palm and Bromeliad Guzmania lingulata, sometimes known as ‘scarlet star’.
The demonstrator was Takashi Sawano: "Ikebana uses flowers and plants in an artistic way and develops spiritual awareness behind Japanese art forms. In my busy life ikebana keeps me in touch with the awareness of nature and what lies at its essence. My favourite summer flowers are sonia roses, Japanese flag iris and wisteria."
