Support the new Centre

World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre

The Museum has received a number requests asking how people can support the new World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre planning application.

How you can help

Revised plans for the new Centre have been submitted to Camden Council, and will go to the Development Control Committee at the end of the year. The Councillors on that Committee have the power to decide whether to grant planning permission for the project.

It is important that the Councillors know that there is growing support for the World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre.

You can help the Museum by sending an email or a letter to the Council setting out your support for the project.

Setting out your support

It is important to say why you support the World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre in your email or letter.

Information about the project can be found on this website. To summarise, the benefits of the project include:

  • A dedicated gallery for special exhibitions, which is modern and accessible and will enable the successful temporary exhibition programme to continue and grow
  • A state of the art conservation and science centre, bringing together currently dispersed staff and facilities to create a much greater opportunity for sharing resources and knowledge
  • A collections' management hub to support the Museum's extensive UK and international loan programme
  • World-class stores for the study collection, including the ethnographic collection of organic objects currently stored off-site
  • A more efficient operation: by bringing the four interrelated functions described above closer together, work can be even more effective and the risk of damage to objects in transit will
    be reduced
  • Improved visitor circulation around the Museum, removing some of the routes that currently force people to double back on themselves and helping to ease some of the busier areas within the Museum

Thank you for your interest in this project.
