Sem Longhurst is responsible for upgrading the
existing database entries and cataloguing unregistered items for
textiles from the geographical areas listed above. Her work
includes research and supervision of digital photography.
Each object is photographed, including detailed shots.
Practical skills: weaver, braid maker and felt
maker.
Academic qualifications: MA (distinction):
History of Textiles and Dress, University of Southampton.
Current British Museum projects
As part of the Merlin plan Sem’s work is to make available on
the Museum’s website catalogue entries and images of the textile
holdings from Europe, the Middle East and Asia, some 8,000
textiles. She is employed on a two-year contract.
