Richard Hobbs is jointly responsible for the
Romano-British collections (alongside Dr Ralph Jackson), with a
particular emphasis on pottery and metalwork (for example jewellery
and silver plate). His research interests include the deposition of
precious metals and food and banqueting, particularly in the late
Roman Empire, and the use and deposition of coinage at Pompeii.
Prior to joining the department of Prehistory
& Europe, Richard worked for the Portable Antiquities
Scheme www.finds.org.uk as Outreach Officer
and as Finds Liaison Officer in Kent. Prior to this he worked in
the Department of Coins & Medals at the British Museum, where
he developed an expertise in Iron Age and Roman coinage. He is
currently working on the numismatic assemblage from the excavations
conducted by the Anglo-American project in Pompeii www.bradford.ac.uk and the
publication of the Mildenhall Treasure.
