Julia Barton
Conservator of ceramics
Conservation of ceramics and glass Department: Conservation and Scientific Research
Julia graduated with distinction from West Dean College in 2006 with a G-Dip and PG-Dip in Conservation and Restoration of Ceramics, Glass and Related Materials. Previously she spent the summers of 1999–2002 training, working and teaching as an archaeological conservator at an Etruscan Excavation and Field School in Italy.
Since graduating she has worked for a private conservator in Scotland, and at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Since June 2007, Julia has worked at the British Museum as a ceramics conservator.
Her duties include conservation of ceramic and glass objects for loan, exhibition, storage and publication, including the examination, documentation, survey and loan assessment of the collection. Although this work covers all the collection, both historical and archaeological, Julia specialises in the conservation of glazed earthenwares.
