Responsibilities entail the curation, research, registration and
exhibition of Sudanese and Nubian artefacts within the collection
with particular focus upon those from Kulubnarti.
Archaeological excavations are conducted in Sudan together
with the National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums (NCAM)
and as part of the museum’s international training initiative
personnel from NCAM receive training in field excavation
techniques.
At the current time, fieldwork is concentrated upon the Late
Kushite site of Dangeil (third century BC – fourth century
AD), approximately 350km north of Khartoum, in the Berber-Abidiya
region where excavation of a large Amun temple and surrounding
temenos enclosure is underway.
