Philip trained as an analytical chemist and now specialises in
the analysis of inorganic materials (particularly glass),
deterioration products and previous repair materials.
He also measures concentrations of museum
pollutant gasses such as formic and acetic acid along with
measuring levels of dust deposition. He is responsible for liaising
with Information Systems for the CDS department as well as managing
the chemical stores and organising chemical disposal.
Before joining the museum Philip spent two
years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of
Pretoria, South Africa, researching automated methods of analytical
chemistry, and prior to this was a PhD student at the University of
Plymouth.
Current British Museum projects
