Tanya manages the Project for recording data on the collections
of the British Museum, as well as Conservation and Science data, on
the Merlin system. The Documentation Group is responsible for
creating and editing records, standardising terminology, supporting
all members of staff in their use of Merlin, and maintaining data
standards. The Group includes a Documentation Manager with a team
of Documentation Assistants who work closely with curatorial
departments, a Technical Support Officer with special
responsibility for the Conservation and Science modules of Merlin,
and a Web Liaison Documentation Officer with special responsibility
for issues arising from the release of Merlin data on the Web.
Tanya has co-ordinated the publication of the BM Object Names
and Materials thesauri in conjunction with the Museum Documentation
Association (MDA) and has contributed on behalf of the British
Museum to the Information Requirements section of MDA’s SPECTRUM,
the UK standard for documentation in museums and galleries. She has
a special interest in prints and drawings.
She has a degree in Philosophy/Psychology (Oxford University)
and an MPhil in Medieval Art History (Courtauld Institute of
Art).
