Laura Phillips is responsible for
the interpretation of the Museum's internationally renowned
collection of coins and medals.
As the HSBC Money Gallery Development
Curator, her role is to present both the collections and the
research of the department to as wide an audience as
possible. This is done through the displays of the HSBC
Money Gallery and a range of on and off site public
programming.
She is responsible for the department's
handling collection which can be used to encourage engagement with
the collections through object-centered activities. Object handling
takes place in many of the Museum's galleries as well as in a
range of activities from schools’ sessions linked to the National
Curriculum, to creative and reminiscence sessions with Seniors.
Laura joined the Department of Coins and
Medals in 2005 having previously worked at Imperial War Museum
North.
Current British Museum projects
Laura is working on the Numeracy Knowledge Transfer
Programme, a programme which aims to create a range of
resources for Skills for Life learners. These will be aimed at
schools, families, offenders, trainee tutors and learners with both
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and numeracy needs.
The collections and collections research of the Department of Coins
and Medals will provide the foundation from which to develop valid,
stimulating and inspiring resources.
