Baroness Kennedy of the Shaws

Helena Kennedy has spent her professional life championing civil liberties and promoting human rights. She was called to the Bar, Gray’s Inn, in 1972, became a member of the Queen’s Council in 1991 and a Bencher of Gray’s Inn in 1999.

Helena has used many public platforms – including the House of Lords, to which she was elevated in 1997 – to argue with passion, wit and humanity for social justice. She has also written and broadcast on a wide range of issues, from medical negligence to the rights of women and children.

She enjoys the theatre and spending time with family and friends.
